Thousands of Dutch fans travelled to Abu Dhabi last weekend to witness the last race of the season. They saw how Max Verstappen took the world title by eliminating Lewis Hamilton. Rico Verhoeven was one of the attendees and was proud of the driver of Red Bull Racing.

The world-famous kickboxer is good friends with Verstappen, so he decided to make room in his schedule and travel behind him. Verhoeven was an eyewitness to the Dutchman's overtaking action on Hamilton, which won Verstappen the world championship.

"This is a historic moment, I'm very proud of him," responded Verhoeven afterward in conversation with The Telegraph. "I'm super busy myself with training and it's always difficult to combine schedules, but if your buddy can become champion, then I want to be there to support him. And he just did it."

Verhoeven makes comparison with own sport

Verhoeven then made a comparison with his own sport, with which he is still very busy. According to the athlete, it is important in kickboxing that he keeps on fighting until the last bell has sounded and he saw Verstappen keep the same faith in a good performance Sunday afternoon.
