The sports world is still catching its breath from the insane end of the 2021 F1 season. Right up until the final lap, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton had prospects of winning the title, with the Dutchman ultimately coming out on top.

All the way

In the official F1 podcast obviously comes up whether Verstappen is the rightful champion in the end? "They were both the right person (for the world title)," said Damon Hill. "It could have gone either way. All it seemed to need was that one twist of a molecule and it changed. It jumped the other way, to Max on his soft tyres."

The participants in the podcast noticed how honourably Hamilton accepted his loss. "That can be a way of winning," said Hill. "You have to accept that sport is not an exact science. Sometimes it's against you. Everyone did their best and he recognised the greatness of Max. And Max sees that in Lewis. "

Best ever

Analysts have been saying for months that the battle between Hamilton and Verstappen is among the best ever. Two of the most talented drivers of all time, fighting each other on the limit. "They have found a worthy opponent in each other," observes former world champion Hill. "I always had the feeling that Michael (Schumacher) never saw me as a worthy opponent. Until I beat him in the rain once and I think he was a bit impressed. It's great when something like that happens. And next year we'll do it again."
