Alexander Albon will be back in Formula 1 next season. The Thai will join Williams in 2022 where he will succeed George Russell who left for Mercedes. Albon is looking forward to the new challenge.

The driver had been driving for Red Bull Racing in 2019 and 2020, where he was teammate of Max Verstappen, but Albon ultimately failed to convince, so the Austrian racing stable decided to replace him. Last season, Albon therefore worked behind the scenes for Red Bull, hoping that he would get a new chance in the following year. That's what Williams is giving him.

"I'm very excited and looking forward to getting back into a Formula 1 seat in 2022," Albon responded in conversation with F1only.fr. "When you step out of Formula 1 for a year, it's never certain that you'll come back. So I'm very grateful to Red Bull and Williams for believing in me and helping me on my way back to the grid."

Driver competition at Williams continues

Nicholas Latifi will be Albon's teammate next year. The Canadian scored seven points last season, four more than Antonio Giovinazzi. Russell more than doubled his teammate Latifi's tally, scoring 16 points.
