It was quite a wait, but in Max Verstappen, Red Bull finally has a new World Champion. The last (and so far only) titles the Austrian team had won were with Sebastian Vettel, who dominated Formula 1 from 2010 to 2013.

Always tricky

Of course, there will always be questions about how the feeling was then and how is it now? Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was also asked in an interview with various media, including Speedweek. Initially, the Brit said he always finds it difficult to make a comparison. "But winning the first title in 2010 was something very special, because against all odds it became a reality. And our feeling today is the closest to that of 2010."

Looking back at last season, Horner called the competition and intensity 'completely insane'. Not for the first time, he cited Red Bull being stunned by themselves by beating the dominant Mercedes team with Lewis Hamilton."We built a car that was fast from the very first race and Max grabbed the opportunity with both hands."

Not the fastest

The way Verstappen eventually captured the title caused extra joy in the Red Bull camp. Of course there was that insane last lap in Abu Dhabi, according to Horner there was another important aspect that made for greater joy. "In the second half of the season we often didn't have the fastest car, but Max still fought."
