Circuit de Catalunya gets makeover for F1 2022 pre-season test

When the Formula 1 circus arrives in Spain for the pre-season test, the Circuit de Catalunya will look quite different. The circuit is currently undergoing a major makeover.
While not every fan is happy with the track, the Circuit de Catalunya is a veteran of Formula 1 when it comes to circuits. F1 cars have been flying over it non-stop since 1991, without skipping a year. Even during the coronavirus pandemic, the track has hosted Formula 1 and will also host the pre-season test there again.
Before that happens, the circuit is being worked on. Currently, the complete paddock is being renovated, so that the teams have modern facilities at their disposal. Albert Fabrega has shared several photos of the work via Twitter, where it looks like a new grandstand is also being built for the fans.
Deal with Liberty Media
The makeover for the Circuit de Catalunya is not a huge surprise. This is because the circuit has extended its contract with Liberty Media to host Formula 1 until 2026 in November. In return, the organisation agreed with CEO Stefano Domenicali that the facilities would receive an upgrade.
Moreover, time is ticking for the proceedings. Indeed, the pre-season test is from February 23 to 25. Before then, the complete make-over will have to be completed, so that all teams can prepare optimally for the new season.
