After three seasons at Williams, George Russell is making the switch to Mercedes. His former team boss Jost Capito praises the Briton and believes Russell is a huge asset to Mercedes.

Russell's last season at Williams was also his best. In previous years, the team was not competitive enough to fight for points, but in 2021 Russell managed to secure sixteen points and even a second place in qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix.

Mercedes will take on a new driver in the team again after five seasons, so it will be exciting to see how Russell performs alongside Lewis Hamilton. In any case, Capito has confidence in the 23-year-old driver.

'Russell not yet at his best'

"George is a great team leader and he is already a polished diamond. He is still not at his best, I think he can still get better. But the stage he is now he is a huge asset for every team, and so he was for us", Capito is quoted as saying on Crash.net.

The team is sad to see him leave but saw it coming. Capito says they are happy Russell is getting the chance at the top team. Alexander Albon will take over the Briton's seat next season.
