That Cyril Abiteboul would be joining Red Bull as top man for the engine department is not true, according to Helmut Marko. The Austrian, like the Red Bull Racing spokesman, denies that the Frenchman will be involved.

Abiteboul was worked out of the Alpine/Renault team at the end of 2020. The Frenchman still seemed to be allowed to join the new developments under the Alpine name, but was replaced by Marcin Budkowski and Davide Brivio before the start of the 2021 season. The former has now already been replaced after yet another reorganization within the French racing stable.

Abiteboul and Red Bull

Abiteboul, who found his way up the ladder within Renault as an engine engineer, joined Mecachrome, where he was also able to return to work as an engineer. According to the Japanese Autosport Web however, Abiteboul would have signed a contract with Red Bull to work there as the top man of the new engine project.

After a Red Bull spokesman told GPblog Red Bull spokesman told that this was not true, Marko also dismissed this rumor as nonsense. F1 insider Marko also dismissed this rumor as nonsense: "I don't know where this nonsense comes from. It is complete nonsense. Ben Hodgkinson is and will remain our leader of the engine project. We hope he can start as soon as possible,'' Marko said of the former Mercedes engineer.
