In recent years, Formula 1 has had two top teams with Mercedes and Red Bull Racing that were almost impossible to overtake. Although the new regulations should ensure that the teams get closer to each other, Helmut Marko expects Mercedes to have a chance at the world title next season as well.

The Austrian racing stable managed to win the world championship four times between 2010 and 2013 with Sebastian Vettel, followed by the Mercedes era. Lewis Hamilton managed to take the top prize six times, while Nico Rosberg managed to beat the Brit in his team in 2016.

In 2022, however, the teams will have to deal with different regulations which may cause a stir in Formula 1. Nevertheless, Marko is confident that Mercedes will come out strong again. "There are no guarantees, but I would be very surprised if Mercedes did not fight for the title this season," the advisor stressed in an interview with Sport1.de.

Red Bull wants to fight for the world title again

Behind the scenes, Red Bull is working hard on the new car to ensure that Max Verstappen can fight for the world title again in the current calendar year. Last season, the Dutchman managed to get past Hamilton on the final lap of the final race in Abu Dhabi to crown himself world champion.
