Colton Herta is not giving up on his Formula One dream for the time being. The IndyCar driver reveals that Formula 1 is still on his wish list, but admits that time is slowly running out.

Youngest winner in IndyCar

Herta is currently conquering the racing hearts of many Americans after some very strong seasons in the IndyCar Series. When he was only eighteen years old he already managed to win in the IndyCar. He did this in his third race in the class at the Circuit of the Americas. It is clear that the American has the necessary talent, but the transition to Formula 1 did not happen yet.

"You know, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to do Formula 1.  I want to do a lot of stuff in my career, but a lot of it also needs certain timing," Herta says at Motorsportweek.com. The American is realistic and knows he can't wait forever. "If you’re 28, you’re not going to Formula 1, unfortunately."

With Andretti to F1

The 21-year-old American hopes he can still make it to Formula 1, and for a while it even looked like it might happen as early as 2022. Andretti had a keen interest in Alfa Romeo Sauber and would be happy to put Herta in the car if there was a takeover. That takeover did not materialize and Alfa Romeo has Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou as drivers in 2022.
