McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo have both expressed their support for race director Michael Masi. Like Ricciardo, Norris believes he should not be judged for his decisions during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Both McLaren drivers had a supporting role in the late restart after the safety car in Abu Dhabi. Norris was among the cars given permission to pass the safety car, while Ricciardo had to stay behind.

Norris is also behind Masi

Norris acknowledged that it is difficult to judge Masi's decision, but stressed that they want to see consistency. "If something is inconsistent, then people get irritated and frustrated," he explained to The Race at the launch of the MCL36.

At the same time, the 22-year-old Brit understands the difficult situation Masi found himself in. "As drivers we also make mistakes, so it's the same for them. It's human to make mistakes," he continued. In addition, he said that the short time in which a decision had to be made also played a role.

So as far as Norris is concerned, the race director doesn't need to clear the field. "I support Michael and I think he has done a lot of great things over the last couple of seasons," added the McLaren driver. He is therefore confident that the existing inconsistencies will be ironed out by the FIA.
