After 27 years, the tribute to Senna disappears from the Williams car
- GPblog.com
On Tuesday afternoon, Williams presented the livery of the new Williams car for 2022. There are certainly similarities, but also differences and one of the major differences is that the S for Ayrton Senna no longer appears on the car.
The logo had been on the nose of the Williams cars since 1995 to honor Senna, but the tribute to the late Brazilian is not on the nose of the new livery. Team boss Jost Capito explained to Motorsport.com that the team 'wants to move on.'
The tribute on the car reminded everyone of the tragic incident at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, where Senna was killed, but the British team has chosen to remove the tribute. They want to focus on the future rather than the past. The team is currently working on a special area in the museum of Williams where people can pay tribute to him instead.
Collaboration with the Senna Foundation
It is a decision that was made by the team and Senna's family played no part in it. The team does however want to work more often with the Senna Foundation, an organisation that supports young Brazilians through education, among other things.
