George Russell turned 24 on Tuesday. The young Briton is perhaps at the start of his most successful year ever, having finally made the switch from Williams to Mercedes. He took the opportunity to show off his new helmet, which seems to hint at the livery of his new employer.

Russell appears to be hinting at Mercedes livery

Russell has opted for a black helmet with red accents. Previously, his helmet was predominantly red, but he has abandoned that for a clear reason. "A red helmet in a Mercedes is very Michael Schumacher, and I want to respect that, " said the Mercedes driver.

Due to his choice of a black helmet, as well as the black overalls Mercedes has shown so far, the team seems to be opting for a black livery again despite rumors. In any case, for the final livery, we will have to wait until Formula 1 descends on Bahrain.

Yet there is something remarkable about Russell's statement: in Schumacher's time the Mercedes cars were silver, which earned them the nickname "silver arrows". With this statement, is he perhaps hinting at a return of the silver livery after all?
