Michael Masi will no longer fulfill the role of race director next season. The FIA announced this recently. Max Verstappen indicated during the press conference in Barcelona that he thinks the decision is unjustified.

Masi will be replaced in the new season by Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas. The FIA had been investigating the events in Abu Dhabi for weeks, and finally decided to make changes to the race management organization.

"Michael has been thrown in front of the bus. For me what happened to Masi is very incorrect. Imagine if a referee was shouted in the ear every moment as in Abu Dhabi to him", Verstappen stated to Motorsport.com and others.

Verstappen disagrees with decision

Freitas and Wittich will rotate the role of race director during the season and will be further supported by a kind of VAR. They will also be assisted by Herbie Blash, who was the man next to Charlie Whiting for many years. Verstappen thinks it's unfair that Masi didn't get the same support.

"I think Michael is a very capable man and I think with the right support he could have definitely done it. Whiting also had support and I think it's a wrong decision to just replace him", the Dutchman ends.
