Helmut Marko does not think Lewis Hamilton can perform much better than he did in 2021. According to the Austrian, the seven-time world champion is at his peak and the years are starting to count.

Hamilton and Max Verstappen had a spectacular duel in 2021. The Dutchman ultimately drew the longer straw, but in the final stages of the season Hamilton again showed how consistently he can perform at the top of his game. According to Marko, however, this will not last forever.

Hamilton is going to lose ground

''Hamilton delivered an incredible second half of the season. I can hardly imagine that he can drive at this level for much longer. He's at his peak now and age is starting to come into play,'' the Red Bull Racing advisor said opposite oe24.at. With that, Marko contradicts Hamilton, who claimed that he is stronger than ever before.

However, the opposite is happening with Verstappen. With an age difference of thirteen years, Verstappen is actually still growing. The 2021 world title will only help that, according to Marko: ''He is a world champion now and will only get stronger,'' the Austrian concludes.
