Andretti very surprised and does not understand resistance from F1
- GPblog.com
By now it is no secret that the Andretti family wants their own team in Formula 1. However, this is not a very easy process, as he is being opposed from several sides. The wait is now on for approval of the registration with the FIA.
Initially the plan of Andretti was that Alfa Romeo would be taken over, but suddenly that was no longer the case. Alfa Romeo had suddenly changed the conditions of the takeover, because suddenly more money had to be provided and the demands on control changed.
Andretti then moved on to the second option: setting up his own team under a new license in Formula 1. He encountered resistance, however, as the FIA did not sound unqualifiedly enthusiastic, and some teams from the premier class of motor racing, including Mercedes, did not seem to be 100 percent supportive either.
Andretti doesn't get it
In conversation with Autosport.com Michael Andretti says he is surprised by the attitude that some stakeholders have taken. The American emphasises that Andretti will simply pay the $200 million entry fee and that Formula 1 will also benefit from the fact that an additional team from the United States will participate. Moreover, Andretti is reportedly going to appoint an American driver which should also provide an additional positive effect.
Andretti also already knows which power source it will drive with if they are admitted to Formula 1 by the FIA. There is already an agreement with Renault as engine supplier. Meanwhile, they know that time is ticking.
