Christian Horner is delighted with the six-year deal Red Bull Racing has signed with Max Verstappen. The team boss looks ahead to the future with a smile on his face.

Red Bull has a star driver

Verstappen is considered one of the best drivers, if not the best driver of his generation. Whereas his predecessors such as Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Ayrton Senna sometimes switched teams, Verstappen remains loyal to his team. After making his debut for Red Bull Racing in 2016, he is now signing a contract that will keep him racing for the team through 2028.

''I think it demonstrates the commitment that Red Bull has to Max and Max to Red Bull. I think it's fantastic news for the whole team. It also shows the belief in what we are doing, so you can't start the season any better. A deal through 2028 is phenomenal for us,'' Horner said in a video from the team.

Verstappen stays

Red Bull has struck an important blow with a deal through 2028, as it secures Verstappen beyond the new engine regulations. Red Bull is working on an engine factory of its own and is also said to be in negotiations with Porsche. The fact that the star driver is already committed for that period makes negotiations with all concerned much easier.

''I think it's very important for us to have that continuity. We have always believed in that. The fact that we have committed Max for such a long period, with the transition year in 2026 where we become an independent engine manufacturer and supplier, is fantastic,'' Horner concludes.
