Haas announced on Saturday morning that it is saying goodbye to Nikita Mazepin with immediate effect following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The team must quickly look for his successor, since in two weeks time the first race weekend will be upon them. Who will be considered for his successor?

Since the discussion has been going on for over a week, the American racing stable has undoubtedly already looked around at what the possibilities are. In recent days the names of Callum Ilott, Oscar Piastri, Nyck de Vries and Nico Hulkenberg have been mentioned. All of them showed in recent years to have many qualities, but for the time being the men do not seem to be in line to replace Mazepin.

Fittipaldi and Giovinazzi most mentioned

Several media mentioned the name of Pietro Fittipaldi in recent days. Back in 2020, Haas gave him a chance as a replacement for Romain Grosjean. At that time he performed satisfactorily, so the Americans would like to see a new collaboration.

Others, on the other hand, argue that Antonio Giovinazzi could replace Mazepin. The Italian drove for Alfa Romeo in 2021, but was told at the end of the year that the team would not continue with him. He then made no secret of his desire to return.

Tough job for successor

Whoever replaces Mazepin will have a tough job at the start of the season. With two weeks to go he must be able to get used to the new car and start the season off right with teammate Mick Schumacher.
