Max Verstappen starts the new season with the world title in his pocket. In the run-up to the race year, the Dutchman has received a lot of questions about last season, with discussions about his victory being the order of the day. It makes little difference to Verstappen, however, as he says in conversation with De Telegraaf.

His rival Lewis Hamilton seemed to be on his way to his eighth world title for quite some time in Abu Dhabi, but Nicholas Latifi's crash and decisions by the race committee gave Verstappen the chance to finish first. He seized that opportunity with both hands, which meant that by mid-December he was standing with the top prize in his hands.

Verstappen is not daunted by the situation

Hamilton's fans are still angry about the situation, but while some consider Verstappen's world title unjustified, the Dutch driver will not let his joy be taken away. In the interview, he therefore indicates that he is still proud of what he has achieved in 2021.

"If they know me well, they know that I don't care," Verstappen revealed. "At the end of the day, it was a crazy and epic Formula One season. The losing team will try to take the shine off it a bit. But on the winning side it still feels good, I can assure you."
