On Thursday morning Christian Horner was quite adamant after seeing Mercedes' new car. The Red Bull Racing team boss felt that the W13 was against the spirit of the regulations and even stated that certain parts could be illegal. On the second day of testing in Bahrain, Horner is a lot more reserved. In fact, he now states that everything seems to be in order.

Between the morning and afternoon sessions, Horner took a seat in the press conference along with Frederic Vasseur, Guenther Steiner and Otmar Szafnauer. The top man of the Austrian team indicated that he was impressed with the design of the Mercedes car.

"It is interesting and very innovative what they have brought. An extreme interpretation of the new rules. It goes in a very different direction than the other teams," Horner said in the presence of Auto, Motor und Sport and others. Red Bull also reportedly has some major updates of its own on the shelf, but presumably these will only be used for the first time during the Grand Prix weekend.

Horner continued by saying, "That shows how creative Formula 1 is. Only time will tell which way is the right one. To the question of whether it is legal, I can say yes, in our opinion it is legal."George Russell said much the same thing on Thursday. The Mercedes driver thinks the design of his car looks cool indeed, but whether it is actually the right direction remains to be seen.
