Expectations surrounding Max Verstappen have risen sharply after last season. The Dutchman achieved a high level throughout the year and will have to manage this again in 2022. According to Fernando Alonso, however, Verstappen will have an easier time of it.

Alonso knows better than anyone what it is like to deal with high expectations. In 2005 and 2006 he managed to win the world championship. The Madrid native can still clearly remember what it was like to take the world title for the first time, he told Motorsport.com.

While many think that drivers face more pressure, according to Alonso it actually decreases when conquering a world championship. The Alpine driver argues that this will also be true for Verstappen, as he no longer has to put pressure on himself to capture the world title at some point in his life.

Alonso hopes for new world title

Alonso himself hopes that in the future he will once again be able to compete for the world title. Because of the new regulations the Spaniard hopes that this can even happen this coming season. However, Alonso will realize that Red Bull Racing, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes are making a better impression with their new car for the time being.
