Hamilton working on name change: 'Not many people know this'
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton has been an established name in Formula 1 since 2007. However, it could just be that in time a different name will be seen with the seven-time world champion. In fact, the British driver is in the process of a name change.
Hamilton wants to change name
Max Verstappen prevented Hamilton from winning his eighth world title last season, but the Mercedes driver is eager to win his eighth in 2022. During an interview at the Dubai Expo 2022 he let it be known that this could well happen under a different name.
"Not many people know this, my mother's last name is Larbalestier and I'm going to put that in my name," Hamilton reveals. He explains that he is currently in the process of changing his name. The Mercedes driver hopes that it all works out soon, although it probably won't happen in the very near future.
Lewis Larbalestier-Hamilton or Hamilton-Larbalestier?
In the interview, Hamilton says he does not understand that when people marry, the woman loses her last name. For him, reason to do something about this. "I want my mother's surname to go along with the legacy of the Hamilton surname," he says. What his new surname would be then, Hamilton still leaves in the middle. Lewis Larbalestier-Hamilton or Hamilton-Larbalestier would seem to be the most obvious options.
