Max Verstappen seemed to be in second place during the Bahrain Grand Prix, until a problem with his engine occurred at the end of the race. The Dutchman lost power and could do nothing but drop out early.

Verstappen showed a fine display of racing in the opening race together with Charles Leclerc. Both drivers battled together for the first final spot which Leclerc eventually seemed to take. Verstappen seemed to settle for second position, but could not secure it due to engine problems. It caused a lot of anger for Verstappen afterwards.

"Of course there can be problems, but at this level, after we have so much information about the engines, it shouldn't happen," he stressed to Sky Sports. "There is definitely potential, but we lost a lot of points in one race weekend. It's really not good. It's not over with one failure, but I would have preferred at least eighteen points."

Incidentally, he was not the only driver to have to retire early, as Sergio Perez was struggling with the same problems. The Mexican spun in the middle of the track, leaving the Austrian racing team empty-handed afterwards.
