- GPblog.com
Charles Leclerc triumphed in the Bahrain Grand Prix, and in doing so the Ferrari driver put the opening race of the 2022 season to his name. Formula 1 viewers worldwide also proclaimed the Monegasque Driver of the Day, but is he the same for GPblog readers?
Leclerc triumphs in opening race Bahrain
The opening weekend of the new F1 season was a dream come true for Ferrari. For the first time in a long time, the Italian team secured a one-two finish after Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez both had to park their RB18. The probable cause of the engine problems that both drivers experienced seems to be known by now.
Up until the last three laps of the race, both Red Bull Racing drivers were having a fine race. Verstappen was continuously putting pressure on Leclerc, while Perez was doing the same to Sainz. Shortly after the Dutchman parked his RB18 in the Red Bull garage, Perez's problems began to surface.
Perez, meanwhile, was fiercely resisting Lewis Hamilton's attacks, but the Mexican didn't escape trouble either, coming to a halt on the final lap. It ensured that Hamilton was able to advance to an unexpected podium for Mercedes.
Lots of action in the midfield
Behind the head of the field there was also plenty of action. Kevin Magnussen scored an amazing fifth place on behalf of Haas, Valtteri Bottas finished sixth with Alfa Romeo and Guanyu Zhou scored a point in his very first F1 race. Will one of these drivers become the GPblog Driver of the Day?
