Max Verstappen managed to stay right behind Charles Leclerc for several laps in a row at the Bahrain Grand Prix. According to Ross Brawn, this revealed once again the impact of the new regulations.

The FIA decided to implement new rules for the 2022 season. These should not only ensure that the teams are closer to each other, but also that drivers can more easily follow each other on the track. The first signs of this were already visible in Bahrain.

"In previous years you could attack, but within a lap or two you had to back off, let the tyres recover and then attack again," the Formula 1 general manager explained to Formula1.com. "And I don’t think that was all down to the tyres, I think it was down to the characteristics of the car. So, a step forward with the tyres, a step forward with the cars."
