Charles Leclerc is at the top of the world championship after two Grands Prix. The Monegasque seems to have to fight with Max Verstappen for the world title in 2022, with the drivers barely giving each other any room for the time being. Eddie Irvine is watching the duel with above-average interest.
The former Formula 1 driver at Ferrari knows better than anyone what it takes to win races. He experienced several greats in his active career and regularly compares them to the current era. In doing so, he finds it interesting to watch the qualities of Max Verstappen.
Verstappen competed for the world title last season along with Lewis Hamilton. Although the British driver had won seven world championships, the Red Bull Racing driver managed to beat his rival and thus take the top prize for the first time.
Hamilton versus Verstappen
Irvine believes that Hamilton has a lot going for him, but thinks Verstappen is special. "Hamilton is exceptional, although I don't think he has the speed of Verstappen," he stated in conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Max is reminiscent of Schumacher. He has an incredible pace and everyone driving his car can't keep up with him."
