It is clear that in Australia it will again be between Ferrari and Red Bull Racing. The Italians have the upper hand for now, but Max Verstappen is again lightning fast in the second sector.

As in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Red Bull Racing seems to gain the most time on the straights. The power output of the Red Bull Powertrain is particularly good. Verstappen used that power source to its full potential in Jeddah to eventually outsmart Charles Leclerc in the race.

Clear where Verstappen is losing time

In the last race, Red Bull deliberately chose a setup with more top speed. That way, it lost some ground over one fast lap, but allowed Verstappen to go on the attack in the race. Although Helmut Marko indicated that Red Bull wanted to drive with a bit more downforce in the second free practice, Verstappen was still the fastest in Sector 2.

In the second sector at Albert Park it was mainly full throttle and looking at the fastest sectors we see that Verstappen manages to win almost two tenths on Carlos Sainz and Leclerc. Leclerc in turn is a tenth faster than Verstappen in the first sector. Verstappen especially loses a lot of time in the third sector. Compared to both Ferrari's he leaves more than two tenths there.
