Ferrari chairman wary: 'Are surrounded by fierce competitors'

Ferrari chairman John Elkann is happy to see Ferrari able to compete again at the highest level in Formula 1. Despite the lead that Ferrari has grabbed early in 2022, Elkann doesn't want to cheer too soon and is wary of the competition.
Ferrari back on top
Ferrari has crawled out of a very deep valley. In 2020, the team finished in a dramatic sixth place among the constructors. At the time, Elkann said the team had to work hard to get back to the desired level. In 2021, the team took the first step to get back on top and in 2022 Ferrari seems to be the team to beat.
In the first three races of 2022, Ferrari scored five podium finishes, including two victories. "The 2022 championship has got off to a truly thrilling start," Elkann is quoted as saying by Reuters Press Office. Among the constructors, Ferrari currently holds a 39-point lead over number two Mercedes.
Elkann expects a fierce battle
Elkann is happy that Ferrari can compete again at the highest level, but knows that the season is still long. "We know that the season has only just begun and in Formula 1 you are always surrounded by fierce competitors," says the president. To continue the fight, Elkann says the Italian team must work tirelessly and optimize the F1-75's performance.
The next race on the schedule is a special one for Ferrari, as it will be held at the Italian circuit of Imola. The last time a Ferrari was on the podium in Italy was the 2019 Italian Grand Prix. At the time, Charles Leclerc won his second GP for the Scuderia.
