'RB18 less than ten kilos too heavy for GP in Imola due to updates'
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing is said to be coming to Imola with updates and it appears to be the case. Formula One journalist Tobi Gruner has already spotted some differences to the RB18 on his Twitter channel.
Since the beginning of 2022, Red Bull Racing has been struggling with the weight of the car. The 2022 cars must weigh at least 798kg, but few teams come close to this. Alfa Romeo would be the closest, but all other teams are too heavy. Red Bull has been way off from day one.
RB18 has been dropped
The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez is therefore working hard to drop the RB18. The team is trying to do this along with the updates so that under the watchful eye of the budget cap it is not doing double duty. Helmut Marko already announced updates for Imola and they appear to be there.
Gruner, of Auto, Motor und Sport, manages to share some new photos of the RB18 on Twitter. The German journalist has learned that the car would be less than ten kilos above the lower limit. This already brings the RB18 closer than Marko stated earlier this week. According to Gruner, it was much worse during testing, as in Barcelona the Red Bull would have been more than twenty kilos overweight.
Some more Red Bull close-up pics for my tech tweeps. We hear the RB18 will be less than 10kg overweight with the Imola upgrade. During testing the car was nearly 20 kg over the limit. #AMuS #F1 pic.twitter.com/xDenHP7x9O
