Red Bull Racing came to Imola with some updates, but Ferrari left the updates out for the team's home race. After the first free practice, Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko can only respect the rival team.

Ferrari pulverized the competition during the first session in Imola. The wet track conditions pulled the field far apart. Max Verstappen closed in behind Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz but had to concede as much as 1.5 seconds to his competitors. The number four and five of the session were even three seconds behind the gentlemen from Ferrari.

Ferrari doesn't even need updates

The fact that Red Bull brought some updates to the Emilia Romagna GP and Ferrari didn't, makes Marko stagger. Andreas Haupt of Auto Motor und Sport quotes the Austrian: "Ferrari is so strong. They don't even need updates." It shows, according to AMuS, that the advisor is in awe of Ferrari's speed. The catch-up race that should be started in Italy seems to be an even more difficult task for Verstappen's team after the first practice session.
