The sprint races were created in part to have extra excitement during a race weekend. But the question is whether it will be really exciting in Imola. Ferrari does not expect this in advance.

Fourth?

Speaking to the Italian media on Saturday morning, Mattia Binotto indicated that he obviously hopes his team will cross the line as winners this afternoon. But the Ferrari team boss is mainly looking at the long term. Aloud, he wondered if it would be bad if Leclerc or Sainz finished fourth, among other things, reports Motorsport.com.

Binotto thinks mainly about scoring points and being able to be satisfied with the result. Moreover, according to him it is important to finish the race. After all, a retirement during the sprint race results in a spot at the back of the grid for the Grand Prix. So, Binotto says, for example, a fourth place could just be a good result. Also because this spot still earns points.

Tough job Sainz

Leclerc will start the sprint race from second position, behind polesitter Max Verstappen. Carlos Sainz has a more difficult starting position. The Spaniard of Ferrari crashed during qualifying and has to start from position ten. For the first eight drivers, there are points to be earned during the sprint race.
