Sergio Perez put in an excellent race at the Imola Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon. The Mexican started from third position and managed to finish in second place. It gave the Mexican a proud feeling afterwards.

After an excellent start, Perez managed to get past Charles Leclerc, putting him in second place. For the rest of the race he managed to keep the Monegasque behind him. At the end, to Perez's relief, Leclerc made a misjudgment, leaving Lando Norris in third place.

"We have been so unlucky the start of the season has been so difficult," Perez stated after the race. "I am very pleased to see everyone smiling in the team. Today is a great day for the team and we need to keep working. I am happy Max got it today."

Perez had challenging early stages of the race

For Perez, it was certainly not easy to maintain his second position. The driver fought a battle with Leclerc. "TIt was really intense the fight pretty much in the first part of the race and we were fighting and then it was all under control." The one-two for Verstappen and Perez ensures that Red Bull is catching up with Ferrari in a big way.
