International media see Verstappen return: 'Nightmare for Ferrari'
- GPblog.com
The Imola Grand Prix was a perfect result for Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing. The Dutchman and his team dominated the weekend in Italy with Sergio Perez also finishing second. However, the international media have mainly been watching Charles Leclerc's huge gaffe.
La Gazzetta dello Sport - Italy
In Italy, of course, the disappointment was great. After two wins in the first three races and a big lead in the championship, the Tifosi were naturally hoping for a Ferrari victory at home. 'A nightmare for Ferrari' is how the country's pink sports newspaper describes the weekend for Ferrari, while also highlighting Red Bull: 'Verstappen and Perez dominate Imola.'
Bild - Germany
The German Bild is logically more moderate in tone, but also speaks of an 'XXL shock for Ferrari' due to the Monegasque's crash. The big winner of the blunder is Lando Norris who gets to go to the podium, but Verstappen is also a happy man after the race, because the gap in the championship has been reduced: 'The race to catch up in the championship has begun.'
Marca - Spain
'Verstappen and Perez walk to double victory, total drama for Leclerc', opens the Spanish Marca after the Emilia Romagna GP. Yet it not only looks at the battle up front, but also the debacle for the two Spaniards in F1, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso, who were out of the race at the hands of others.
L'Equipe - France
'A costly mistake by Leclerc,' said the French sports newspaper. The Monegasque seemed to be on his way to a neat third place, but eventually had to make do with sixth after being too eager in the closing stages. Max Verstappen makes a step up in the championship and does good business prior to the GP in Miami according to the French medium.
Corriere della Sera - Italy
We come back to Italy for the final headline which really says it all about the weekend: 'Verstappen teaches Leclerc a lesson this whole weekend.' Where Verstappen has had to contend with bad luck so far, it is Leclerc who is the first to make a really big mistake.
