Looking purely at the timesheets from the first free practice session, we can say that Red Bull did not have a very strong Friday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Nevertheless, the mood in Austrian camp is fine. This is mainly due to the longruns that were completed in the second free practice.

The asphalt temperature is incredibly high this weekend in Spain and that means the tires are going to have a hard time in the race. There were many complaints about the high tire degradation during FP2, but Red Bull seemed to be the team that was least bothered by it.

Speaking to Motorsport-Magazin.com Marko, he tells us, "Our longruns are very encouraging. Both cars looked good on the mediums and the hard tires when we talk about wear." At Ferrari, the problems seem to be greater. The Red Bull Racing advisor even thinks that Mercedes will be faster than Ferrari in the race: "First we come, then Mercedes and then Ferrari."

Speed over one lap

Verstappen had to outperform Charles Leclerc in the short runs."We lose over one lap only in sector 2, it's not even two corners where we lose that, you can fix that," Marko is hopeful heading into qualifying.
