Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz will drive with a new chassis from the third free practice. The former suffered extensive floor damage yesterday after hard contact with the kerbs. Sainz was diagnosed with a problem with the fuel system, so Ferrari is taking the safe bet.

Norris was setting a fast lap in the second free practice session, but in Turn 9 he went hard over the kerbs. He did not return to action in the session. McLaren is sending Norris out on Saturday with a whole new chassis, but whether that is the consequence of his broken floor is unknown.

No penalties

For Sainz and Norris it has no direct consequences, but ideal is different. Moreover, it means a lot of extra work for the mechanics. Both at Ferrari and McLaren they worked through the night last night, while there is actually a night clock in Formula 1. However, teams can ask for dispensation a number of times per season without incurring a penalty.

Incidentally, Williams also worked through the night. What exactly they have been so busy with is unknown.
