Team ratings | Mercedes closest team to Red Bull in Spanish GP ratings
- GPblog.com
The two Red Bull Racing men grabbed the maximum spoils in Spain. Mercedes came back, while Ferrari disappointed for the first time this season. Good marks for Red Bull and Mercedes and Ferrari swap places. These are the report cards of all teams from the GP of Spain.
Red Bull Racing | 10
A one-two is a perfect score in Formula 1. Red Bull Racing earned a ten on the report, as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez crossed the finish line as first and second drivers. A minus point of the weekend could have been Verstappen's uncooperative DRS, but Red Bull Racing single-handedly made up for that with perfect strategic initiative.
Ferrari | 5.5
The Ferrari F1-75 proved fallible in Spain after all. Charles Leclerc's sudden retirement not only cost the driver the lead the championship but also the team lost the top spot among the constructors. With a P4 for Carlos Sainz as the best and only result, it is a downright bad weekend for the Scuderia. They score just enough because of Leclerc's pole position.
Mercedes AMG F1 | 9
Mercedes took some updates to Spain and would use the weekend to learn a lot about the development of the W13. In addition to the learning moments, Mercedes also left enough time to prepare for a good race. With some luck on the side of Mercedes, George Russell grabbed P3 without a bumpy car. Lewis Hamilton was ignored by his team when he asked to abandon the race after an early crash and ended up finishing fifth.
McLaren | 6
Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris did not drive themselves into the spotlight this weekend and had an unremarkable weekend. Norris made the difference by driving from P11 to P7. Ricciardo did not do the same and went for the opposite direction and fell from P9 to P12. Norris, with his four points gained, just keeps Valtteri Bottas behind him.
Alfa Romeo Racing | 6.5
At Alfa Romeo, the big difference between the two drivers may not be a major factor. Bottas again had access to a fast car in Spain and managed to finish sixth. He finished only a good five seconds behind former teammate Hamilton. Although the reason for Guanyu Zhou's retirement is not known, unfortunately, his team will be deducted points because of his retirement.
Alpine F1 Team | 8
Like the McLaren drivers, we didn't see the Alpine drivers driving much on the track either. In the case of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso, that didn't mean they drove a bad race. Both drivers scored points. For Ocon, the car was good enough to drive from P12 to P7. Alonso also drove a great race by coming back from the back of the field to P9; good for two points.
Aston Martin F1 Team | 4.5
Although Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel did improve a few spots from their starting positions during the race, it was not a strong weekend for the team. No points were scored and the rigorous changes to the car did little to help. The Aston Martin is said to be too similar to the RB18, but with results like that, it hardly matters if something is copied or not.
Scuderia AlphaTauri | 6
AlphaTauri seems to have taken a step backwards in 2022 compared to last year. It remains difficult for Pierre Gasly to score points with the car. Yuki Tsunoda, by the way, did so in Spain. After a mediocre qualifying, a mediocre race and a result of one point, there are no big pluses to point out at the team. However, the team did gain a point on rival Haas F1.
Haas F1 | 5
It was a disappointing Sunday for Kevin Magnussen and Mick Schumacher who started the weekend strong and achieved a good result on Saturday. From starting spots eight and ten, the two failed to score points. Magnussen threw away his race early on due to a crash with Hamilton and Schumacher did not keep up with the pace. The team showed they have a strong car for Saturday, scoring slightly better on the report than AlphaTauri
Williams | 2
No points for Williams this Grand Prix. Alexander Albon managed to score points two races in a row, but that proved too difficult in Spain. The British-Thai was even beaten by teammate Nicholas Latifi. A miserable Saturday preceded an equally miserable Sunday, making it a "classic" Williams weekend, rated a failing grade.
