Max Verstappen managed to take the lead in the world championship at the Spanish Grand Prix. It means that the Dutchman is heading towards the race weekend in Monaco with confidence, although he knows it will be tough.

At the beginning of the season, it was Charles Leclerc who took a big lead over Verstappen, but during the last GPs the Monegasque lost his good form somewhat. Last weekend he had to leave the race early due to engine problems.

For Verstappen, Leclerc's failure meant he could drive to victory and take the lead in the World Championship. For the Dutchman, it came as no surprise that he finished the last three races winning. "I am feeling good, but it also really shows you things can change quickly," he told Sky Sports.

Verstappen hopes for improvements at Red Bull

According to Verstappen, Red Bull can still make plenty of strides in the coming races. "I also look at pure performance and I think we need to improve a little bit more, especially over one lap. Of course, in Monaco it is all about that one lap. I don't expect it to be an easy or straight forward weekend here compared to Ferrari, but at the end its very early on in the season so I am pretty relaxed at the moment."
