Jos Verstappen is not happy with Max Verstappen's third place finish at the Monaco Grand Prix. Verstappen senior would have liked Red Bull Racing to do more in terms of strategy for the leader in the championship. After all, after his DNF's, every point is important.

Sergio Perez's crash in Q3 of qualifying forced Verstappen to abort his lap. The Dutchman had to start from P4 on Sunday and eventually managed to gain one spot due to Ferrari's strategic mistake with Charles Leclerc.

According to Verstappen senior, the Red Bull team threw away ten points for his son because of the strategy. He grants the victory to Perez, but he still would have liked the final result to be different.

Jos Verstappen disappointed with P3

"Red Bull put in a good result, but at the same time didn't exert much influence to help Max get to the front. That he finished third, he owes to Ferrari's mistake at that second stop of Charles Leclerc. In that sense, the championship leader, that is, Max, was not helped by the chosen strategy. That was disappointing for me and I would have liked it to be different for the championship leader," he writes in his column for Verstappen.com.

Red Bull chose to call Perez in first for a pit stop. That choice ultimately proved the best, as the strategy allowed the Mexican to take the lead. According to Verstappen senior, Perez owes his victory to that earlier pit stop. "The team might still explain that as a gamble, but they had already seen with Gasly, for example, that the intermediates were the best option at that moment," he says.
