Red Bull Racing has taken over the lead in both championships from Ferrari. The Austrian team says it is prepared to adjust the characteristics of the RB18 to remain competitive for the rest of the season as well.

Red Bull is in a fierce title fight, just like in last season. This time it is not Mercedes that is the rival, but Ferrari. The RB18 is the master on the long straights, while Ferrari generally gains time in the slower parts of the track, chief engineer Paul Monaghan also knows. Monaghan says in conversation with Autosport.com that the characteristics of the RB18 may well change in order to be better on multiple circuits.

Standing still is going backwards

Monaghan says Red Bull is also looking at Ferrari to find out exactly where the Italians are faster. According to the Brit, it is important to be open to change within Formula One, because standing still in F1 means falling behind. Monaghan believes that it is important to keep rethinking things and thinks that the RB18 would be different from circuit to circuit. Looking at the upcoming races on the calendar, Monaghan expects that in Baku everyone will be moving in the same direction. At Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring, on the other hand, he expects differences again.

Strong run by Red Bull

Red Bull is on an excellent run. While the team saw its car fail to finish three times in the first three Grands Prix of 2022, it has won the last four races in a row. Max Verstappen won three of the last four races, Sergio Perez one. In addition, the two drivers have scored three more podium finishes. Red Bull has a 36-point lead in the constructors' championship over Ferrari.
