Former top McLaren team knows its place: 'We want to be fourth'
- Cameron Smith
McLaren is currently fourth in the constructors' championship. Given the status of the team, that is the place where the British outfit should be able to finish, at the least. An attack on the top teams Red Bull Racing and Ferrari - probably also Mercedes - seems to be difficult.
Not comfortable
Daniel Ricciardo in particular is an uncertain factor this season. The Australian is far from his old form and has only captured eleven points. The points must of necessity come from Lando Norris. McLaren has accumulated 59 points so far, putting it 17 points ahead of Alfa Romeo and 18 points ahead of Alpine.
“I wouldn’t say fully comfortable because we are up against strong competition with strong drivers and strong cars and therefore the pecking order can still change depending on different tracks, different conditions, tyre selection,” team boss Andreas Seidl told The Race.
Continued Times
At one time, the championship was the goal at McLaren. Those times are far behind us. Even after the rule changes, McLaren is now a team in the midfield. "Our target is clear; we want to fight for fourth in the constructor’s championship. We have everything in the team together with Lando and Daniel to do that", said Seidl.
