Marko has bad news for Gasly: ''What is his alternative?''
- GPblog.com
For Pierre Gasly it must have been painful to see that Sergio Perez has signed a new contract at Red Bull Racing. The perspective within Red Bull is therefore limited for Gasly, but Helmut Marko sees no alternative for him.
With Perez, Red Bull Racing has finally found a driver who can stay close to Max Verstappen. The Mexican was given the chance by Red Bull after Alexander Albon and Pierre Gasly were deemed too light by Red Bull's management. Gasly has repeatedly expressed his dissatisfaction with his limited time at Red Bull, but for now he does not have to count on another chance.
No place at Red Bull Racing
Gasly was thrown into the deep end at Red Bull Racing in early 2019 following the sudden departure of Daniel Ricciardo. The Frenchman did not perform as he should and was pushed aside after only six months. Gasly himself believes that he deserves another chance at Red Bull after his good performance for AlphaTauri, but now sees Verstappen (2028) and Perez (2024) occupying the seats at the top team in the coming years.
Gasly's disappointment is understood even by Marko, who consequently entered into conversation with the Frenchman. ''Of course I spoke with Gasly and explained the situation to him. We will see after '23 how it goes further with Gasly,'" the Austrian said to Formel1.de. Gasly, in fact, still has a contract at AlphaTauri until 2023.
Painful situation for Gasly
When asked if Gasly will not want to look outside Red Bull before now that the prospect of a seat at Red Bull has disappeared, Marko's attitude becomes very clear: ' 'What is his alternative? ''There is no alternative that is clearly better than AlphaTauri,'' the Red Bull chief said.
Gasly, in addition, has yet to produce great results in 2022. The Frenchman is still struggling a bit with his new car in 2022 and suddenly sees Yuki Tsunoda coming much closer. Gasly still has a slight advantage in qualifying, but Tsunoda has scored more points than his teammate in the first seven races. The roles are reversed in that respect compared to 2021.
