There was some controversy surrounding Jos Verstappen' s words after the Monaco Grand Prix. According to the former Formula 1 driver, Red Bull Racing had failed to extend the lead of the leader in the world championship (his son Max) further ahead of the Ferrari's. Helmut Marko will shed his light on the matter after the qualifying session in Baku.

Marko on Jos Verstappen

"There was slight nervousness after Monaco. Especially Jos Verstappen made some comments that were not substantiated and not helpful," Marko was quoted in Azerbaijan on Saturday by Motorsport-Magazin. com. Incidentally, Max Verstappen also let it be known a day earlier that he had spoken with his father about the yet critical column. Team boss Christian Horner also expressed his opinion.

As a result of the statements of Verstappen Sr. Max and Sergio Perez had a talk. There is no question of tension between the two drivers."We had a conversation Friday morning, both with Perez and Max and then the two of them sat around the table. So everything is fine as far as that's concerned. Checo is on fire. He has never been so strong, he is so good in all sessions. They have the same material, the same conditions. May the best one win," said the Austrian advisor.

Pole position for Red Bull in Baku?

The difference between Perez and pole-sitter Charles Leclerc was ultimately almost three tenths. If the Mexican had managed to string all the sectors together he would have come close to the current number two in the world championship, but at Red Bull they honestly think that a third pole position in 2022 would not have been there for the Milton Keynes-based team.

"If you start looking at all the sector times separately, pole would have been possible. But fair is fair: the gap is quite big. Getting three tenths would probably have been too much. Realistically, I don't think pole would have been possible today, but we wouldn't have been far off," Marko concludes his account to the German medium.
