Max Verstappen was the big man with his victory in Azerbaijan. The Dutchman took full advantage of Charles Leclerc's retirement and is therefore further ahead of his competitor in the world championship. Who will take the title of 'GPblog Driver of the Day' in Baku? Vote in the poll and leave your opinion in the comment section.

Whereas Leclerc was allowed to start the race from pole position, it was Sergio Perez who overtook him right at the first corner. The Mexican had to let his teammate pass in the course of the race, but then convincingly conquered second place.

Ferrari was less fortunate. The Italian racing team was hoping to start its comeback in Azerbaijan, but with the retirement of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz the problems only seem to get worse. This left both drivers fairly invisible in the race.

Russell and Hamilton fight their way into the top four

Other drivers made a positive impression in the race. The fifth-place of Pierre Gasly was worth it, as was the sixth place of Sebastian Vettel. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton also showed themselves positively. Despite the many problems with porpoising, and thus physical discomfort, they persevered throughout the race.
