Russell receives time penalty for causing collision with Perez

An incident with George Russell on the opening lap of the Austrian Grand Prix ended Sergio Perez's hopes of securing a double podium for Red Bull Racing. The stewards have now ruled that the Briton was to blame for the incident, which has earned him a five-second time penalty.
Drama for Perez after contact with Russell
Perez got away well initially and was soon closing in on George Russell in an attempt to take fourth place. Russell didn't like this and defended his position hard, resulting in a collision. In an attempt to overtake on the outside, Russell hit Perez's RB18, which spun off the track.
The Mexican then came in for a pit stop and dropped to last place. Shortly afterwards he was also told by his team that there was damage to the floor of his RB18, so he had to continue the race with a considerably slower car.
Penalty for Russell
The stewards have now held Russell responsible for the incident and have given the Briton a five-second time penalty. He has already served that by standing still for five seconds before making his pit stop at Mercedes. For Perez, the picture is not so rosy: the Mexican is already a lap down and his race looks as good as over.
