Charles Leclerc wins a Grand Prix for the first time since the Australian GP. The Monegasque was clearly faster in the race than rival Max Verstappen, who had to settle for P2. The retirement of Carlos Sainz meant that Lewis Hamilton surprisingly ended up on the podium.
The points in Austria
Verstappen could not keep up with the fast Ferrari's, mainly due to tyre wear. Leclerc overtook Verstappen three times on the track. It looked like the Dutchman would finish third, but then Sainz's engine blew up. This made Hamilton third.
George Russell had a difficult start and received a five-second penalty, but fought back to finish fourth. Esteban Ocon finished fifth and Mick Schumacher got the best result of his F1 career with sixth.
Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo both took points for McLaren with P7 and P9 respectively. Kevin Magnussen ensured that Haas F1 also had two cars in the points by finishing eighth. The final point went to Fernando Alonso.
