Red Bull Racing team advisor Dr Helmut Marko is so impressed with Max Verstappen that he would never want to compete against the reigning world champion in a hypothetical situation. The Austrian thinks that would be anything but fun.
Marko thinks Verstappen is of such exceptional class that it is no fun for anyone to compete against him. In 2021, the Dutchman managed to beat seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in a very heated battle that lasted the whole season. In the team's magazine Red Bulletin, Marko also said he would never want to compete against Verstappen in his life.
Marko would be afraid of Verstappen
"No. Racing against Max Verstappen would not have been fun. He is always on the limit regardless of the circumstances. In fact, he always has the car under perfect control." The team advisor thinks back to the world champion's action in Brazil in 2016. During one of his most famous races, Verstappen lost control of his steering wheel in the rain. As he slid sideways onto the straight at 300km/h, he regained control of his car. Marko: "Nobody can do what he does."
Finally, Marko dares to make a comparison with another great Formula 1 driver, Ayrton Senna. According to the Austrian, Senna and Verstappen are similar in terms of character, work ethic, self-confidence and charisma. However, Marko adds that he prefers not to make comparisons between Formula 1 drivers.
