Upgrades for Mercedes in France: 'Hopefully we'll be back on the podium'

Damon Hill thinks Mercedes could score a one-two in the French Grand Prix, but Toto Wolff is not so sure. The team boss believes the W13 still lacks 'a few tenths' to compete for victory.
In a Mercedes press release, Wolff described the third and fourth places in Austria as a "satisfying result", especially considering the position the team found itself in on Friday night after the crashes of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell in qualifying. "The team worked miracles to have two complete race cars ready for the Sprint and Grand Prix," said Wolff.
Wolff hints at Mercedes updates
The Austrian says he is happy with the momentum his team has built up by scoring four podiums in the last four races. Yet he also recognises that the W13 may not yet be fast enough to challenge frontrunners Red Bull Racing and Ferrari. "While we were quicker in Austria, we still weren't quick enough to challenge at the front," Wolff continued. "We need to keep chasing those final few tenths and bringing new developments to the cars, including this weekend in France."
So Wolff hints at updates for Mercedes, although he does not know what these will bring the team. However, the slippery asphalt of the Circuit Paul Ricard does seem to suit the team, as it did at Silverstone. "The aim will be to make further inroads on the gap to the front and hopefully be back on the podium," said the Mercedes team principal.
