Lewis Hamilton is preparing for his 300th race weekend in Formula One. Over the years, the seven-time world champion has made a big impression in the motorsport class, including on Lawrence Barretto.

The presenter of Formula1.com has a lot of respect for the way Hamilton has manifested himself in recent years. The Brit entered Formula 1 as a young talent and quickly became world champion, followed by six more titles. According to Barretto, the world titles did not come at all easy for him.

"What struck me, as we sat on top of the cabinets at the back of the ART garage, was not only how in-depth his self-analysis was but how incredibly tough he was on himself," he recalled. "Even when he recovered a second place in the Feature Race, he was still irritated that it wasn’t a win. To this day, he has maintained that unrelenting strive for perfection – and it's made him F1's greatest ever driver.

Chances for Hamilton in France

Hamilton goes into the Grand Prix weekend in France as an outsider. The driver had a rough start to the Formula 1 season with Mercedes but has been satisfied in recent weeks. With three podium finishes in the last three races, he did better than his teammate George Russell.

Mercedes has opted not to run Hamilton in the first free practice session this weekend. As part of the allotted sessions for young drivers, the German formation has allowed Nyck de Vries to participate. Hamilton will be on track for the remainder of the weekend.
