Ferrari were not only unlucky to have Charles Leclerc crash into the tyres himself on Sunday afternoon in France, they were also not very strategic. Nevertheless Carlos Sainz remains supportive of his team, he told Formula1.com.

Sainz was given a five-second penalty during the race for a dangerous moment in the pit lane, which forced him to change his tyres one more time. As he was about to overtake Sergio Perez, Ferrari suddenly decided to call him in. The Spaniard refused to do so and was called in a short time later.

Sainz defends Ferrari

It is not the first time that Ferrari does not seem to choose the right strategy. Sainz, however, does not agree that it is specifically the Italian team that is always making mistakes, pointing the finger at the other teams.

"I think the team is doing a very good job on strategy this year; I still believe at Ferrari we get super-criticised for things that other teams might be going through, also in the pit stop windows, and every time there’s a tricky moment on strategy, we are discussing things. But we are not a disaster like people seem to say we are."
