Max Verstappen is in a fierce battle with Charles Leclerc in 2022. His rival from last season, Lewis Hamilton, will not play a major role in this year's title fight. According to Verstappen, the championship duel in 2022 has a good 'vibe'.

Relaxed battle

Speaking to the French L'Equipe Verstappen admitted that the title fight in 2022 is easier than in 2021, as he now has his first title already in his pocket. "But Charles also always wants to win, his hunger is the same: if you are in a the car and a victory is possible, you jump on it!"

In 2022, it is not Mercedes but Ferrari that have been Red Bull Racing's most formidable opponent. According to Verstappen, it is not very different from fighting Mercedes, but he can enjoy between the mutual respect of the drivers of both teams. "I think this championship gives a good vibe," he said.

Not the first fight with Leclerc

It is not the first time Verstappen and Leclerc have met on the tarmac, as the Dutchman recalls the many battles he and the Monegasque have had on the karting track. Leclerc has not become more aggressive. "He always has been, but in a good way," Verstappen concluded.
