De Vries still dreams of F1: 'I would be lying if I said I didn't'

Sebastian Vettel's decision to retire from Formula 1, Fernando Alonso's decision to move to Aston Martin and the uncertainty surrounding Oscar Piastri mean that seats are up for grabs. Nyck de Vries is one of the names being linked with a seat, but reveals that he does not expect to be on the F1 grid in 2023.
De Vries on F1 opportunities
With Mercedes pulling out of Formula E at the end of this season, De Vries will be without a full-time seat in a motorsport class for next year. He is mentioned as a possible replacement for Fernando Alonso, but would be more likely to win a seat at Williams. Even there, a seat has already been given away, as was made clear by the announcement of Alexander Albon.
That leaves only Nicholas Latifi' s potential seat, should the British team decide to turn the driver down. De Vries reckons F1 is out of the question for him, although it will always be the dream. "Obviously everyone shares that dream and goal," the Dutchman told Total-Motorsport.com. "I would be lying if I said I didn't want to go to F1."
However, De Vries has proved successful in Formula E, where he became world champion last year. "I am also happy with what I’m doing. Ultimately it’s out of my control so time will tell what will come. I can only do a good job on the track, I’m flattered my name is around and we’ll see," De Vries said.
